401A Incentive
Retirement Deferred Compensation Plan
The County of San Diego offers a 401A Incentive Retirement Deferred
Compensation Plan to all permanent County and Superior Court Employees.
This program allows you to save up to 25% of your Federal
taxable gross wages or $40,000 per year
(whichever is less) pretax!
The County of San Diego offers two plan providers:
- The Hartford Life Insurance Company
- T. Rowe Price
Both providers offer many different investments options for you
to choose from, ranging from very low risk funds to very aggressive
funds.
You may enroll in either plan or both.
You have 90 calendar days from your date of hire to enroll in the
plan. If you miss this window of opportunity to enroll, you will
not be able to enter the plan at a later date.
If you join the plan, you may select the percentage of your contribution,
either 2.5%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, or 25% of your federal taxable gross
wages. This percentage is irrevocable. Once you select the percentage,
it can never be changed.
The 401a plan has a loan provision. It also has a hardship provision
that would allow you to suspend your payments into the plan for
a minimum of six months.
